A Surprising and Refreshing Album

Continuing to carve their names into the vanguard of music, Sadness and Magogaio deliver a stunning release through Flowing Downward Records.

Magogaio, a project known for its unique approach to blackgaze, brings a quite unique atmosphere to the split. Their music refracts the rawness of black metal through a lens of urban melancholia, a effective use of electronic elements weaves a dreamlike quality into the fabric of their sound.

With nearly an hour, this split album is filled with moments that linger long after the final notes fade. Magogaio’s sonic walls are rich and enveloping, while Sadness crafts vast, melancholic landscapes that feel both intimate and boundless. Both nostalgia and modernity.

This is exactly the kind of release one hopes to hear in 2025—alive, industrial, and a reflection of the times. It is inspiring to witness how black metal has evolved and how artists who draw from its foundations can blend it so effortlessly.
