Trha – lact'eben: The Definitive Zenith of Damian Ojeda’s Visionary 2025 Cycle

In a contemporary black metal scene often defined by its limitations, Damian Ojeda stands as a titan. His output throughout 2025 has been nothing short of supernatural, delivering a staggering thirteen releases across his primary vessels, Trha and Life. Yet it is not merely the quantity that stuns, but the unwavering commitment to top-tier quality. His latest offering, lact'eben, marks the crowning achievement of this prolific run, perhaps the most sophisticated and emotionally resonant work of his career to date.
Lact'eben serves as a masterclass in sonic synthesis, seamlessly blending the hallmarks of Ojeda’s various projects into a singular, cohesive experience. While firmly rooted in the lo-fi melodic black metal that defined Trha, this record introduces a profound screamo influence—a first for the project—that adds a layer of raw, human urgency. The result is a sound that is undeniably warm and fuzzy, driven by epic tremolo-picked chords and an upbeat energy that defies the genre’s typical tropes. While the signature chaos and rawness remain, the pervasive bitterness has been replaced by a bright, sunny atmosphere, suggesting an artist operating at the height of his powers and personal clarity.
The album functions as a naturalistic journey, evoking the sensation of a brisk dawn walk through a forest where the dew still clings to the grass. There is a newfound fluidity to the songwriting; the riffs flow with the effortless grace of clouds across a blue sky, proving that "lo-fi" can be a tool for atmosphere rather than a mask for technical deficiency. The vocals act as a haunting extension of the instrumentation, with raspy shrieks echoing through the reverb like a celestial calling card. It is a record that speaks a primal language, whispering to the natural world in a dialect only Ojeda can convey.
With lact'eben, Trha has achieved a rare maturity, melding disparate elements like a fine wine. At a time when most artists would face creative burnout, Damian Ojeda is only getting stronger, more consistent, and more essential. This release is more than just another entry in a vast discography; it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of a true treasure of the modern underground. Lact'eben is not just a release to be heard—it is a landmark to be celebrated.
